because SMU is worthless. They have no value; no, scratch that, they have NEGATIVE value. G5 football program? Check the box. Private school? Check the box. Extremely expensive? Check the box. Relatively small fanbase? Check the box. Low TV numbers? Check the box. Halfway across the country from 90% of the conference? Check the box. The ONLY thing SMU brings to the table is the opportunity for current conference members to lose to what yesterday was a G5 football program, and the only thing anyone got in return was Wake Forest boosters making sure WF could keep cashing media rights checks a few more years. Mark my words - the panicked addition of SMU will prove to be a very serious cancer for whatever ends up happening to the "post-power" ACC.
