B12 also had three teams in Texas (+ one in DFW) and were adding a fourth.

I assume they even thought long and hard about adding Houston. They certainly did not want another Texas team after that. For the ACC, however, SMU is a great choice. If NIL patronage is the coin of the realm, and we all know it will be, SMU will be a great addition. We just need some of the SMU football "crazy booster with tons of cash" tradition to rub off on UVa, UNC, Stanford, Duke and Cal, all of whom have plenty of rich alumni, and the ACC will be fine.
