I don't know enough about PE so maybe you can help me.

Isn't this the same as what was called "venture capital" which puts "investments" into risky projects with low early payments but increasing payments at a fairly rapid rate? If so how does that help say a Big 12 or ACC? doesn't the burden of the repayment trump the value of an excess of money up front? How do you see it working?
