Pretty clear you're only talking about BE football

BE basketball did everything possible to keep us out, then when they finally did allow us to join, they gave us the most expensive buy-in in the history of college athletics. Thankfully we got the ACC invitation before paying all of that "blood money" to the BEC. They were probably the best BB conference at the time, but there is no way we should have ever considered paying that much to join.

Don't remember the ACC charging us anything to join for all sports, not just the #2 sport.

After VT, Miami, and BC left, the BE dropped their buy-in for all sports membership significantly...maybe less than half what they charged us for basketball only? Eventually the "basketball only" schools kicked out everyone that played Div-1A football, taking the name with them when they left. Too bad that didn't happen in the 90s...the Big East might have become a good "all around" sports conference, especially if they could have picked up PSU. Oh well, the BB-only schools killed any chance that would become a major sports conference.
