One of the issues with modern mega-conferences (16 teams or more) is that

it dilutes the power and benefits of an individual school. For example, if Stanford and Cal have an issue with Memphis's academic profile, it matters very little if the rest of the conference wants the Tigers. They have very little pull compared to their days in the Pac-12, not to mention the Pac-8. In terms of the benefits, while 200 million (and in the ACC, adding in Tennessee carriage fees) seems like a ton of money for one school to buy into another conference, once you divide that money between a dozen and half schools, the money might still not be enough to get their yes votes. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 7/22/2025, 11:52:42 AM
