I keep hearing this about UVA following UNC. Can anyone explain why?

If academics are involved, then I would think UVA would pick either the BIG or ACC in a heartbeat, no matter what UNC does. If it's sports driven, why would they base a major move just on one rivalry? I get that they have some connection, but it seems overblown to say that UVA will want to follow UNC. There are too many other factors involved. There might be a preference to stay close, but I doubt it's more than that unless UNC can actively help UVA to get invited to the P2. Does anyone have insight into this UVA UNC connection that keeps getting mentioned?
