No, it's not that, it's more with expansion, the B12 can go West, or

it can go East. The PAC could only go East, and they didn't want too. The ACC could only go West, and they didn't want to either. It appears the wording of the contract with ESPN forced Phillips to make a move to retain the contract if they were to lose FSU, Clemson, and another. The ACC did not make that move to up their value with the media contract, they made that move to protect what they have. Now, if the money is there, I have no doubt that the ACC could poach any B12 school they wanted. I believe that your contract extension to 2036 takes any expansion ideas of the ACC off the table. I'm not saying that the B12 is in a position to expand either, but if Yormark is successful in separating the football media contract from the basketball media contract, there could be some real movement that we haven't even considered yet. "Football only" may become a thing with all of our schools in the future, and if that happens, regionality becomes important again. ** Edited by Big12 guy at 2/13/2025, 8:35:03 AM

Can someone make a solid argument why you think the ACC will cut penalties?

Only way would be if ESPN simultaneously extended ACC media rights deal.

I agree with the scenario with a caveat
Sunsetunderground 02/13/25 03:21 PM ET
My take is that ESPN will want it (eventually)

That’s a plausible theory, who do you think goes where in your opinion?**

The B12 has the geography, The PAC didn't, and the ACC doesn't. **

If you mean nationwide reach, ACC could get there with a few B12 schools.

Not sure I follow you...

I am saying "if" the Mag 7+1 leave for the P2, I could see the ACC trying

If such an entity was to materialize, I have no doubt that they could get

ESPN article says FSU & Clemson trying to cut penalties by 2031, that's key

A football secession would be a pretty clean option.

Not only that, but you could also consider different
