Thoughts on Stanford and the Big Ten.

1. I have always had a great deal of respect for Stanford as an institution historically. It might be the best overall university in the nation. 2. I find their football and basketball programs to be somewhat of a bore. But I really enjoyed the style of play they exhibited during their era of dominance under Harbaugh and Shaw. True smashmouth old school football with some fine passing creativity sprinkled in. But TV execs and Big Ten presidents don't care about any of this. 3. I think the B1G hanging them out to dry is almost disgraceful. The B1G claims to care about academics, but leaves Stanford, the best private school in the P5 with great non-rev sports to die on the vine. Ditto for the Cal, the top-rated public university. 4. I know the talk is that the "B1G won't leave USC and UCLA on an island" and they will "come back for more later." But I am skeptical about the prospect that the B1G is going to take Stanford. I hope I am wrong about this however.

I think he means the importance of ratings in valuations is trending up.

I mean ratings are carrying more weight than Cable Hookups, and rivalry

Don't see the SEC going to California
EDGEMAN 06/27/23 09:13 AM ET
I don’t see the SEC going there either, but the B1G is probable IMHO.**
Stech 06/27/23 12:07 PM ET
I think his comment was that the B1G may go Stanford also.**
hokieZ71 06/27/23 09:58 AM ET
Yes Stanford and Cal once the PAC can’t get a decent media deal is certain.**
Stech 06/27/23 12:05 PM ET
Do they need Stanford? Nope.
EDGEMAN 06/27/23 11:12 AM ET
San Francisco/Northern California population is huge, yeah they want those
Stech 06/27/23 12:47 PM ET
San Francisco is like NY. It is a pro sports town. **

Think so too, IMHO the non-revs will mainly play a Regional Regular season.
Stech 06/27/23 12:52 PM ET
I think many of The PAC schools will be reunited in The B1G.
