There is one key difference between B12 and Big East

The B12 schools have size with student populations and alumni. And that translates into media value. The Big East has 3 schools that roughly the same size as Wake Forest and another 4 schools that are smaller than Wake Forest. Plus this would be for more than just basketball. It would be all non-rev sports also. And the B12 schools are going to be bigger and better for most of that as well (facilities, athletes, budgets, fans).
