I think the fact that the SEC does not want either FSU or Clemson in its league combined with ESPN not wanting to lose them to Fox and the Big Ten is a big factor. So, FSU and Clemson could start this all off by heading to the Big XII with enough media rights $$ coming from ESPN to make it happen. (With FSU and Clemson added to the Big XII’s catalog of weekly football matchups, the Big XII is now extremely undervalued.) ***oh, The Big XII will foot the bill for their ACC buyouts through private equity funding*** The biggest brand in the ACC - that being UNC - then goes to the SEC along with NC State, UVA and VT. This keeps UNC totally under ESPN’s control. This also puts the SEC at 20 members with the SEC now truly being a Southeast Conference. With FSU and Clemson already going to the Big XII, ESPN has now added quality content to the two leagues it has a financial stake in. The B1G could be content with adding AAU schools Miami and GT to their catalog of National TV markets and also get a premier football brand on the east coast to add to Penn State. The Big XII finally finishes things off by adding Louisville and Pitt and strengthening is East coast presence. The 3 power football leagues now stand at 20 Schools a piece. They divide the ACC’s 17% stake in the CFP between them, 9% would go to the Big XII (the Big XII did add all of the ACC’s recent playoff teams), and 4% each for the SEC and B1G. So the SEC and B1G would receive 33% of the CFP money while the B12 would receive 24%. The G5 (G6?) and ND would still get their 10%. The ACC finishes its conversion to an elite private school-led, basketball and Olympic sports-centric athletic conference with enough exit fee cash to keep it going for a long time. Maybe the ACC adds UConn and Tulane to get to 9 football members and 10 all sports members. Good for them.
