The ACC-ND deal was in 2013. Much has changed since then.

Divisions can be used or not used according to convenience. If it entices ND to join, then great. If ND would prefer to just rotate the teams they play, like present? Then that's fine too. And with respect to the hypothetical and impromptu divisions I drew up, I'd much rather play FSU and Clemson every year than play ND every other or every third year. The benefits of having ND as a full conference member to save the ACC far outweigh our current deal to play them every third year. Teams from the non-ND division (including VT) could play ND in ACCCG, so it's not like we would never play them again. Dynamics that exist now that didn't in 2013. 1. FSU and Clemson (and possibly UNC) openly threatening to blow up the ACC. 2. CFP byes to certain conference champions only. 3. NIL money 4. The P2 threat to take over the sport and write the rules Bottom line: there's a ton of incentives for ND and the ACC (including FSU, Clemson and UNC) to make such a deal in 2024 that didn't exist in 2013.
