This is the key. You are involved because you are a VT fan. You

watch Washington play Michigan, because they are in VT's "league". The minute they exclude 85% of college athletics, is the very minute that all of the schools fans not in that league, stop watching. It's why Gonzaga fans watch the Big East, or G5 fans watch the big games. There will be exceptions of course, but if your school is excluded from the dance - not by competition, but because of money - then it just doesn't mean as much.
