thats my point.. and that is bias
Lately USC and UCLA have not won the Pac 12 and Rose Bowl. To ESPN its a loss when UTAH (or Oregon ) wins the championship. In ACC, its a network loss when Pitt Wake or VT wins the ACC Championship. No one ever says to these 'media schools' get better and compete better.. the better answer is move them into the Big 10 and prevent the other schools from having the ability to compete.
The BCS in the nineties, worked great, however, it allowed teams like VT to get to the national stage and play one of the highest rated championships ever. However, so many blue bloods were left off the stage. Next... WVU almost did it again if Pitt didnt beat them. Networks felt there was too much risk for the money they were dolling out, so they suggested "a more fairer way' and access and created this model and guess what e got However many times ala, Oklahoma Ohio State and Clemson and Pac 10 basically frozen out. all to ensure the 'best teams' play for the marbles'. The question is "best team" Are the best team selected by ESPN and hyped to ensure a predermined number of participants?///
For teams like the words flagship. I think Clemson needs to address back to USC on the word Flagship. If it needs to get into a on -air public discourse on the word flagship, make it so. If so many corporate types are using the word flagship. un defined branding can affect an institution.
by the way a flagship leads a number of other ships and not alone. For VT the flagship school of the state, how many total students and campuses does the university have??? Total number of research dollars top in the state, and they have total outreach with the State Cooperative Extension service and have so many parternships with the smaller schools in the state. With the huge campus infrastructure in Northern Va. VT should be titled the flagship school of the state. With UVA downsizing outreach in Northern Va (gave up a joint campus with VT, no support of its campus in Wise, and not a significant outreach to the commonwealth, its more a niche university.

Having State, Tech, or A&M after your name makes you inferior in some eyes
