Why would VT (or any school) want to cut a sport that it is competitive and

successful in so it could add another sport that will take time to become competitive in? NE-Omaha is the only school I can think of that has made that decision in recent years. However, Trev Alberts was the AD at the time, who is now the AD in Lincoln, so I suspect politics played into his decision to cut the wrestling program hours after it won the NCAA DII National Championship as apart of its move to DI. Now by NE-Omaha cutting football and wrestling, it was able to add men's ice hockey later on. You can guess which 2 sports NE-Lincoln and its fan base are passionate about. Here's a hint: ice hockey is not one of the 2 sports.

No I don't advise cutting anything.
HOO86 06/02/22 09:22 AM ET
Oh I agree with you. I hate seeing a school cut a men's sport (or sports)
VTHokie2000 06/02/22 02:32 PM ET
Probably because it requires adding another women's sport
EDGEMAN 06/01/22 04:16 PM ET
We should get a couple of teams to do it at once to avoid that.
