JMU tried the waiver, maybe even both years, but were turned down.
The Sun Belt was really good about getting them into a proper FBS schedule right away. Both years JMU played enough FBS teams, etc. But the NCAA denied their waiver (at least in year two) even though they were obviously ready.
My how times have changed in just three years. The NCAA apparently gave out three waivers!
