It's a bigger deal than many people think, they'll undoubtedly promote SEC

first, but they need more content than just the deep south. The numbers just aren't there and they are treading very close to losing more viewers as they and B1G leave more and more schools behind. They keep acting like they are the NFL, but there is a huge difference, College Football does not compete well with NFL teams where they have them. Lots of empty seats in those College stadiums. Often the most avid fans are in areas that there is no NFL team nearby, that's not by accident. One of the big things about a Conference Channel is that you can promote your conference teams without having to get the networks to cover you, versus another Conference. I am just guessing here, but I think ESPN wants to have an alternative to SEC basketball to pick up other regions of the country. Maybe that is why their talking heads keep talking about the ACC and Big East do some type of basketball merger. PS I think the dropping of MLB is that ultimately ESPN wants the NCAA basketball tournament. If they get it, they will expand it to about 90 teams. They are not trying to protect the Masters date like CBS is trying to protect the Masters date. The Masters is two weeks too early so they can butt up to the NCAA tournament. They actually put heaters on the Azaleas some years to get them to bloom. As for me, give me April Madness so people will tailgate more. ** Edited by Stech at 4/15/2025, 7:49:49 PM
