favor of the NCAA in 1984. The other interesting thing I find about this topic is the NAIA schools seem to be in a better position to deal with the NIL issues and even the pay issues. Based on the few articles I have found talking about the NAIA, which I think has approximately 250 members (including 5 from Canada), it passed NIL legislation in October 2020 even though the student-athletes were allowed to received compensation since 2014. It appears prior to 2020 the student-athletes weren't allowed to reference their status as such for whatever reason. Also, I have not found anything to suggest the NAIA schools are worried about the possibility they might have to treat their student-athletes as employees some day. Maybe the NAIA is able to avoid getting caught up in this mess because they don't generate the same level of revenue as the NCAA does from its media contracts. If so, then I guess there is a possibility that some schools could decide to leave the NCAA and join the NAIA.
