They could bring that back, by simply making the regular season champ get

an automatic bid. Also, if they are going to expand the tournament, do they need Conference Tournament? I know they will never end them, because they make money, but they are not what they used to be with so many at large bids. Either way, the regular season champ deserves the automatic bid more than the Tournament winner IMHO. Heck on second thought, with 90-96 teams, you could give an automatic bid to both the regular season champ and the Conference Tournament champ.
