But I see much closer cooperation between the P2 conferences for the next five or six years. As for Vanderbilt and Northwestern, the big question is whether the P2 will adopt the pro model, under which players would be considered employees and wouldn’t need to take classes. If that happens, Vanderbilt and/or Northwestern might voluntarily leave the P2 and join a conference that sticks to the traditional NCAA model. Other weaker programs, such as Rutgers and Mississippi State, would stay with (much) reduced payouts for as long as they can. I don’t see them being kicked out within five or six years.
