Boy, the ladies looked tired tonight.

Played well, but weren’t as crisp as Thursday night. Some heavy first touches and just couldn’t get it in the back of the net. On to the next one at Liberty.

Samala did burn them on the breakaway

and took advantage of our weaknesses.
I just don’t feel we responded well to their style.

It’s really really hard.
Georgetown certainly was a factor as well, IMO they were more physical than Clemson.

was definitely letting everyone play. Started calling some fouls at the very end.
And that’s kind of my point. VT has always been known as an aggressive/physical team. Often leading the conference in fouls. I wonder if the improvement in recruiting has led to more finesse players. Guess we’ll see. And see if it proves to be better for the team.
And my final pet peeve. I know there’s a reason, and necessity to pass the ball back to Hargrove on occasion to reset the offense, but boy, I felt like it was overkill yesterday. I suspect at least 20 times we did that, while Georgetown never did.
Now maybe that’s youth on the back line, but I see that more as lack of confidence than anything else. And our offense never could get anything going. Except the one breakaway by Salama.
Early in the season, I suppose.

That’s a nature of wanting to play out of the back. Watch a premier league game. I don’t know how Georgetown wants to play or what their philosophy is, so can’t answer to why they were different. IMO watching a lot of soccer, that’s topically a complaint of people that don’t really understand the game. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a parent yell “why are we passing it backwards”?

typically do. Or have in past years. Listening to Chugger after the game, he wasn’t pleased with the effort first half.
We’ll see how we do on Thursday against Liberty.

I thought mid-way from the first half through the end of the game we were clearly the better team with more scoring opportunities, hit the post twice, stuffed on a break away, missed one from the 1 yard line. We definitely could have played a cleaner game but Georgetown was physical and pressured our forwards and wouldn't let them turn easily. Hope this one lights a fire under them to bring it for 90 every game. Lots of talent with Salama leading the charge.
I had no problem with them going backwards and resetting with an inexperienced D, definitely the safest option and we often controlled it and moved it into good positions but not always.

I think she was fouled on that one. On replay it appeared the GTown defender pulled her down which didn't allow her to get over the ball and deflect it downward and you could see her seeming to indicate the same after the play. That said, almost impossible to call in real time and no VAR in college. Is what it is.
