Presidential politics were always kind of rough. Wilke used this against FDR, claiming he was becoming a dictator or a king.

It was used by Wendell Wilkie, FDR’s 1940 Presidential opponent. FDR was the first to run for a third term. FDR never claimed that he was indispensable, but his supporters at least hinted at it. The slogan did not help Wilkie, nor did a similar line of attack help Thomas Dewey in 1944.
