Summer between my Jr/Sr HS years ; I did not attend but know it was disastrous for the locals. Wayyy more turnout than expected and insufficient facilities , in fact , post event local lawmakers drafted an ordinance banning that ever happening again ; I worked at a small Mom/Pops gas station - grocery store close by - I easily recall all the shelves being pretty much sold bare & we even got down to selling milk by the cup ; mostly recall it was a helluva boob show with all the loose hippy women for this young guy filling up his eyes đ¤Ŗ

I knew of the Galax Fiddler's convention but must have been at home while this happened. Some good names there... I mean, like I'm a bluegrass guy.

I knew some people from the hood older than me that went, including my
sister. I could have gone, I suppose, but at 16 I wasn't into anything like that - music or otherwise. I did end up with a
"Stompin' 76" bumper sticker on a Nova I bought that was originally owned by my sister's boyfriend (later husband).
And I did hear the Woodstock-esque stories.

Where I worked for 12 years - prodesign (doorway to stairs off Main Street) - we designed and built that star for the stage. I left there for the CLT in January 1984 and I think prodesign lasted another 3-4 years and became "Champs".
