Traveling to Hatteras NC from Lynchburg. Should
I go to Suffolk and eventually pick up 158 to get over to the Outer Banks or go to Raleigh and go in on 64?

I wish Waze had a "sanity rating".
I'll gladly drive out of my way if it keeps me moving at a consistent pace without having to feel like I'm participating in the Indy 500.

Forget Raleigh
460E - 58 bypass at Suffolk - I64W - 168S (toll)[costs more on weekends, but worth the time saving and driving ease] ** Edited by TomTurkey at 6/10/2026, 6:36:19 PM ** Edited by TomTurkey at 6/10/2026, 6:40:14 PM

Honestly, depends. If Saturday I would likely drop down to 64
Otherwise I would take 460. But it is still shoulder season so Saurday might not be that crazy

Time of travel is more important than route. All routes suck if hitting
them at peak hours.

This route won't hit any traffic until Barco.

Yea, the day traveling is more important than the route. And no app or
phone is gonna help you with that. Both routes will be/are brutal at their bottlenecks. We used to head down very early in the day to avoid, then spend the day on the beach, waiting on the house.

460 to Suffolk, then right on 158 down to Outer Banks. Avoid Friday or
Saturday if you can.

Ask your phone.

Agree but I bet the phone says suffolk. Raleigh to nags head is brutal.
