Son did the Boulder Skyline Traverse over Memorial Day weekend....
he sent pictures that were so beautiful. Just a warmup to some 14'ers this summer.

Guess I can relate...sort of. I rode 1,000+ miles in a month...
...several summers ago during the Trek Strava challenge. I was riding 6 days/week, and around the 800 mile mark I became really sick of riding, but stuck it out to get the 1,000 mile prize. I think I rode my bike twice the rest of the year. That was the last serious Trek Strava challenge I ever did. I only went for the minimum distance to get something after that... It really did kill my joy of riding...

When I was at VT in co-op program I rode a bike from…
Whipple Drive to Radford Arsenal and back every day one summer. Even with padded bike shorts I was never β€œcomfortable” with that much riding and never got back into it after leaving. Legs got swole though from a lot of uphill on the way home after work.

It really does suck the fun out of riding.

More like crushes the fun out it.
Final straw was when my bike got stolen. Was a Specialized mountain bike that I had locked to a bike rack with a kryptonite lock while gone a couple days for a holiday weekend. When I got back someone had cut the entire bike rack in half with a band saw and slid the bike off with the lock still attached. I assume they eventually cut the lock off in a welding shop or some such.

I remember passing bike racks at VT which were filled with either...
...front wheels attached with a bike lock, or bikes locked to the rack but missing wheels. There was a lot of bike theft even when I was a student. I lived off campus, and biked to/from VT on nice days. Thankfully bike thieves didn't seem to steal bikes during the daytime.
