Fairfax County has not always been the most populous jurisdiction in Virginia. Name the jurisdiction that preceded Fairfax County for that distinction and the last census year in which it held that distinction.

The city of Richmond was dominant in the state for a long time. It was the most populous jurisdiction in almost every census from 1790 to 1950.

census year. So far, only UTPr0sim and Hokie CPA have given valid census years. We only do a census every 10 years.

were taught in school. Also I remember in the war of 1812 the British burned much of the Virginia Census (and others) records. I think the first census was 1790 and Virginia was the most populous state! I would think Richmond, the Capitlal would have been the largest place, but no clue. The word "jursidiction" could mean alot of different things.

go with that. Say... 1970, since Princess Anne County consolidated in the mid 60s.
