Captain Edward Maria Wingfield was elected the first president of the
governing council immediately upon arrival of the English colonists in America on April 26, 1607.

I think Cabell Massie the First was elected President of Jamestown Rotary
Just a couple of days before that. Of course I don't have documentation, but perhaps one of his progeny does.

I believe Jamestown had a "president". Cap'n Smith was NOT the first.
