miserable and dangerous with riptides on a calm day, and given that so many numbnuts flock there now that school's in session in NC, the loss of life from dumbassery would be enormous. This isn't a "who's toughest?" issue, it's a "anybody here with a brain?" issue.
DonHo's on Topsail so they may get measurable surf. I heard today the Ocracoke Ferry was packed and waitlist building up.

They just don't want folks stranded for what could be several days on a small chunk of barrier island with limited resources.

Occurs, so you can get stuck with few options to go north or south. Not so much life threatening as an inconvenient PITA.
On Topsail you worry more about inland flooding closing roads and no access for a while. That usually only happens with rain dumped from a landfall.
Iβll be mowing grass and starting plants for community garden. My surfer-dude days are over, (but Wimmins still want me.) Just donβt
Need to be frolicking in the ocean for a day or two.
