The last one was a Zenith bought in the mid-80's and it lasted until her passing in '97. Looking down at the floor to watch TV never made much sense to me. Its just as bad as the people who mount their LED flatscreen over the fireplace and stare up at it. The TV should be at eye level while sitting on the couch.

Our first kinda/sorta remote was when we first got cable and the channel
changer was a slidebar box with a long cord.

But I found with a broomstick, I could sit in the chair that was closest to the TV and change the channel with the stick.

Ours had a freaky long cord. Easily made it to the couch, and for the
upstair TV, to the bed.

It was actually a Proscan tube TV that had 2 remotes. One for programming and one you could only use to turn the tv on/off, adjust the volume, or change the channel. I programmed the TV to our cable box and deleted out off all the channels we didn't subscribe to make it quicker to get to "real" stations. As I finish programming the TV, I used the master remote to try it out. When I changed the channel up, sometimes it would go 2, or 3 channels up, and when I changed it down, it would do the same. I was not happy and decided to clear out all of the programming and start over. I went back through the programming and I had the same problem. However, this time I heard my wife giggling in the background. She had the simple remote changing channels and volume as I was testing the TV. She still tells the story. I guess I knew then that I really had met my match.
