Set a new personal speed record on the slopes recently

I think this was Cupp Run at Snowshoe on a day when the snow was fairly nice and not icy.
I topped 60 one other time at Big Sky several years ago.
Alas, I don't think I'll set any new records ever again. Knees just ain't quite what they used to be. I'm lucky to get to 35-40mph these days.

Big Sky has much wider runs with almost no-one on them compared to Cup Run where no-one should be hitting it that fast unless in the Cup Run Challenge race. I've seen too many hauled out for straight lining right into a skier below them on Cup...(keep your head on a swivel at the bottom of the lower headwall.)
I quit tracking with ski tracks. I found the app would zap too much battery & my legs/lungs now track how much vertical I get. Plus my Ikon pass helps with that now too to some extent, but I really just stopped keeping track.
It's easy to yo yo on Cup Run. I'll hit it at rope drop & ski non-stop until 11 and get a ton of runs in that two hour period. We'll get in 8-10 runs in that two hour period, which will get you over 10K. Where the speeds on that side of Snowshoe creep up (& safest) are on Shea's Revenge side prior to hitting the road to the lower steep. I've come under the chair with no-one on the slope & have tucked it straight onto the road many times.

And it was a weekday morning when there was genuinely no one on the slope. I definitely don't ski crazy like that unless I've got the slope to myself, and I know Snowshoe well enough that i know where the junctions and blind spots are to peel back well before them.
Agree with everything you said and I made every effort to not endanger anyone else.

They are topping 80mph. I know what skiing at 60 is like, and it's borderline terrifying. It's exhilarating, but you also know you are on a razor edge and one tiny mistake means you are basically in a motorcycle wreck in the snow.
But an Olympic skier would fly by me almost like I was standing still.

from 2002. Easy to see how they hit those speeds - I have to back waaay off on those sections so I don't get myself in trouble.

if you don't :)
those speeds are crazy to me.....before this year, I'd only been skiing like 4x...did 10 days this year and loving it but I'm still very much learning and max out around 30mph at this point.

I've hit 40+ days on the slopes every season the past three years - helps that my local mountain is only 30 minutes away. Still working on getting it right almost every time up but having a blast (well, most days).

You're nuts. That is pretty awesome, actually.

it was somewhat terrifying. I have a friend who has hit 78 - I can't even imagine

Close one day at Aspen Highlands. I’ll have to check out that app although most of my ski days are behind me. Dislocated one of my knee replacements already and don’t want to ever ever do that again.

I think I've only maxed out around 25-30 mph, and was very nervous...lol
