...a traditional vaccine. The other is a new MRNA vaccine with even less testing than the covid MRNA one. My doc said I should skip both.

Neither currently available vaccine is mRNA. Both are protein antigen based similar to the flu and pneumonia shots you have probably received in the last.
There are mRNA vaccines in pipeline but not currently available.

mRNA vaccines in the pipeline have a claimed higher efficacy than the current vaccines. Time will tell.
