When you call 'customer service', and request a call back, does anyone
REALLY believe you keep your place in line? I've been waiting for the call back for about 2.5 hours at this point. If I hadn't requested a call back, would I have been on hold for 150+ minutes?

It's now been more like 8 to 9 hours. No call. So now they're just
ignoring me I guess.

Several years ago I had dealings with Social Security. They had the call
back option and they always made on time. I was so surprised.

My dealings with them (which was actually during COVID) was amazingly->
efficient and the service was very helpful and friendly. I couldn't go in the office (closed), and had to deal over the phone. I decided to retire and get my SS/Medicare during that time. They made it simple and I was STUNNED! I actually even emailed the office supervisor about how good a job they did. NO WAY.. was that really the government

luckily I had just gotten off a plane and was in the car, if they had called earlier I would have missed it and started all over again.

Calls need to be organized in some order. Yes, I believe that.

My guess is that the "Call Back" requests, at least for some companies,
only get called when volumes of live callers are otherwise down. That would be a form of optimization as well.

Maybe they should call you when you're on hold, and say,
"You're now #3 in line", then hang up, and do that until it's your actual turn?

Some do. Hearing "There are 1 callers ahead of you" 12 times, though.
