Chips are just a part of the problem for auto manufacturers...

The limitations placed on the number of people allowed, as covid restrictions, in plants restricted manufacturing at both assembly plants and the suppliers of parts used in assembling vehicles. This created a shortage of parts and a decrease in the number of vehicles able to be assembled. People got over the initial shock of covid and began buying like normal months before auto manufacturers were allowed to get back to normal work conditions. Demand outpacing supply causes prices to rise. This has happened in other industries at the same.
