The "business side" of the Great Lakes can involve a lot of shoveling

My son now lives in Manitowoc, WI right on the river and four blocks from the lake. They don't get that much snow, but it's cold. He has an outdoor rink the can skate on and does a lot of pond skating and ODR hockey in Madison when he visits his fiancee. In the five years he went to college in Gannon, the first was the worst with lots of snow, freezing spray, you name it. Outside of the extreme blizzards (like last Thanksgiving), snow is dealt with easily. His senior year, it snowed 14 inches in Erie on Friday. We had no trouble getting to Erie and going to his senior day meet the next day (granted I have a Wrangler). Our PA house is about an hour inland. We get a good bit of lake effect snow. We have snowblower on the Cub Cadet and can keep the driveway clear. We can canoe the Allegheny May through September and have tons of hiking and mountain biking options in the Allegheny National Forest.

SUNY Buffalo is a good school, but IMO a very ugly campus.
