Highly recommend the Upper Peninsula - probably great in just about any season, but fall was superb. Great hiking at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the Keewenaw Peninsula was gorgeous (catch a ferry to Isle Royale National Park if you're there in season), Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is a gem, and watching the big ships transit the locks at Sault Ste Marie is fascinating. Also made my way down the western shore of the Michigan mitten and there's some great stuff there too. Definitely would not mind going back.
