Uber question...I'll likely be using it for the first time ever

at the end of the month. I'm assuming both riders and drivers accumulate ratings over the years to help identify who the good and bad ones are. Is a new user likely to encounter any difficulties getting a ride when they have zero ratings?

I'll be in San Antonio for about five days, but other than to and from the airport, I'll probably only venture further than walking distance from the hotel for maybe 1-1/2 days of that. That just seems like an ideal situation for using Uber vs. paying about $600 for a rental car. But I've literally never used Uber or Lyft before.
