Good advice below already. I would add...

that you should ask the salesperson how easy the maintenance is. Specifically how easy it is to remove the blades or replace the belts. Oil changes are easy on almost all of them but removing the deck, or replacing blades & belts can range from "simple" to "just buy a new mower". For an acre of mowing, I'd recommend a 42" deck with a 15 to 20 hp engine. I have zero experience with zero turns, but my opinion is that you only need one if you are in the mowing business. Saving 5 minutes on lawn mowing doesn't move the needle for me, but it does for a professional.
