In honor of the late lounge poster named al5hokies, I recommend the epic

novel Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. From there, there are a couple of prequels and sequels, but that's the one. That's the starting point. He recommended that on the Lounge and I read it on vacation and have read a number of his books since that time. He has a great historical fiction trilogy centering around World War I, World War II, and the Cold War that may have been even better. Epic stuff. RIP al5hokies and Bay Area Hokies' mother as well.
