Had one in the woods behind my house in Iowa, every year she'd have a couple pups, I'd trap a couple each year, but never her, she was too big for my trap. So one year I buy the extra large trap and put it under the tree I know she lives in (and had seen her fall 20ft out of when a hawk dive bombed her, but she walked away). That night, not soon after, but that very night, a massive windstorm blew through, sheared the top half of that tree down onto my stone fire pit and patio. After I cleaned up the tree I found the trap, crush beneath it and a couple days later, saw her waddling around. That was it, I never messed with her again...she was protected by something well above my pay grade.
