As a VT engineer, I have taught my kids a thing or two about math...
The crap they teach in elementary school now is ridiculous. 1st-3rd grade math in schools is a complete embarrassment. My 9yo has shown an interest in math and numbers since he was 4 years old.
I spent just a base amount of time teaching him math the way we learned it growing up. Last year he was grade advanced from 3rd to 4th grade math. This year he's in 4th grade and they're asking us if we'd like him to grade advance to 6th grade.
A bit of a humble brag, but it goes to show how poor elementary education has gotten. My 7yo's teacher is more focused on inclusivity in 2nd grade than base knowledge. She sent an email today that he is the most advanced in the class at reading and handwriting, and the kid still can't easily tell the difference between b's and d's.
Our academic standards are based on an incredibly low threshold and it's affecting our kid's abilities to develop. You're seeing the fruits of inclusive math and not telling kids they're behind the curve. It's embarrassing and has us on the verge of looking at private schools.
