Stepdaughter really wanted to make waffles last weekend.

The recipe called for 1-1/2 cups of buttermilk. We had a 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, and 3/4 measuring cup. The 1-cup one was in the dishwasher. That turned into a 10 minute refresher course in how to add fractions. Sweetie, this is why you actually need to know, and actually remember, how to do math, at least up to and including algebra. I'll admit, at no point in your adult life will you need to diagram a sentence or calculate the area under a curve. But knowing the difference between their and they're or how to add fractions or calculate what a 15% discount is in your head are skills you really do need. Really really.
