SIR. Thoughts on starting Schlee the rest of the way?
I'm trying to think about it from all angles.
I know Drones is a junior and should be returning next year but I have this feeling with the way the season is going that he may transfer. Just a gut feeling - could be wrong. I know something is definitely off, whether it's his injury or something behind the scenes because he didn't even seem like he cared to be there yesterday (not saying he doesn't care, just saying how it appeared on TV).
But we got Duke and UVA. We still have a winning season and a bowl to play for. And Schlee is gone after this year so I'm curious what you guys think? Do we just ride out the year with Drones and hope things improve as he enters his senior year or ride the senior who only has 2, hopefully 3, games left in his career and hope it doesn't turn Drones away from wanting to return next year?
Lastly, I don't believe Drones is the answer. But he seems to be all we have unless we get a decent transfer next year. He's definitely regressed as his pockets get fatter.

Drones needs to the dough for another year, because he's not close to NFL material, and I think his college transfer stock has probably dropped quite a bit. His best offer will probably be VT in 2025.

Like, VT didn't even have 100 yards of offense until the end of the 3rd quarter, they had like 12 rushing yards at that. Once Clemson went up 2 scores, it was clear that this wasn't working, no need to risk the health of Drones or Tuten, when you really need them to be healthy for the last 2 games, which could actually be won by VT. So, we got Schlee and Coney enter the game at the same time

dont want him to unnecessarily risk injury or get hurt, but are you looking to save him so that he can pass for 80 yards and a sub 62 % completion %? He seems limited (for most of year) running the ball (assuming due to injury), which is his top attribute, so what is the fixation on making sure he is ready for the home stretch? His main strength is neutralized and he is struggling mightily in the passing game.
I mean at this point, does Schlee maybe deserve the chance to play/start based on his own merits and Drones mistakes?

prepare for next year by letting Pops and/or Davi get the bulk of reps with the #1s during practice (and the start). Heck I might go as far as make them the #1 and #2 on the depth chart for the last 2 games. You could even add Jackson Sigler and/or Ben Locklear to mix if the coaches don't think Pops and/or Davi are ready for a somewhat expanded, but limited, playbook. I think Pops will be a r-So next year and Davi should be a r-FR since he won't play more than 4 games this season. I would think the coaches would want some data on how these 3 QBs do against opposing teams to determine if they are capable of playing DI-FBS football (or not) and how QBs they should target in the portal during the offseason. I assuming they will want to sign at least 1 QB during the offseason, but it could end up being 2 or 3 if Pops, Davi, Jackson, and Ben have a future as a FBS back-up QB.

I think even Pry realizes if he loses out to end the season he is gone.

moving on could set VT back even further, IMO. And I don't think he's been very good.

fired at the end of the season. Does VT leadership want to give Babcock an opportunity to hire a third football HC? If not, then a new AD likely won't start until the beginning of the new fiscal year (July 1, 2025). Even you would agree that VT couldn't wait that long to let the new AD hire the next football HC given it is so close to the start of the '25 season. If VT is going to have a new football HC for next season, then that would mean Babcock makes a third hire or an interim AD makes the hire if Babcock isn't allowed to finish out the season. Regardless, there is a good possibility that the new AD will want to hire his/her own guy so it would be better (and cheaper) to just wait until the new AD has started the job.

committed to football as some Hokie fans. Even if Babcock is fired or steps down, Pry would still be the HC for the 2025 season because of the timing issue. I suspect Babcock will be allowed to hire his third football HC.

Changes in other coaching positions may be required. But even if we lose out rest of the season, I think Pry is given one more year. Consider that his recruiting classes are really only freshmen, redshirt freshman, and true sophomores at this point. The first class he signed was mostly put together by fuente. So I'm not including that one. The portal has a greater and greater impact, but he has not really had a chance to fully establish his players, and give them time to develop. I think he will be given a chance to adjust his coaching staff before the school gives up on him.

At least we didn’t have an FCS team on our schedule which is the only way UVA is sniffing a bowl

I propose letting both QB's play a few series in the first half and then give more or all series to the player who does a better job running the offense. Schlee is a better passer and he makes quicker decisions. The Tech D needs the offense to pick up first downs so they can get some rest. If the offense cannot pick up enough first downs, the defense will be too tired in the fourth quarter.
In the age of the portal, it doesn't necessarily make sense to play the younger guy since he might be hopping in the portal in a few months. Coaches need to play for the present year since there is so much roster turnover.
