If you plan to just recycle the same coaches internally for new positions, let your top players leave via the portal (without ponying up for somebody), and target FCS guys, I dont see the value in making such statements. It feels like some big time gets are coming our way soon.

dont want him to unnecessarily risk injury or get hurt, but are you looking to save him so that he can pass for 80 yards and a sub 62 % completion %? He seems limited (for most of year) running the ball (assuming due to injury), which is his top attribute, so what is the fixation on making sure he is ready for the home stretch? His main strength is neutralized and he is struggling mightily in the passing game. I mean at this point, does Schlee maybe deserve the chance to play/start based on his own merits and Drones mistakes?

felt more confident with Schlee. He just seemed more comfortable and confident (and accurate). Drones brings a lot in the run game (when healthy), but he seems very limited in the pass game, and it doesnt seem like much progress has been made there.

mediocrity more than ours? One of our greatest attributes is probably the one thing that truly holds us back. Look at how loyal this fan base remains and how much $ we continue to spend despite a consistently average to below average product (mostly below). It's a testament to the fan's dedication and commitment, but also doesn't incentivize the decision makers to make tough decisions. The loyalty is neat, but I really admire the programs out there who are committed to winning and holding their coaches accountable.

I think the perceived upside of the Jones hire was his ability to be a stud recruiter, yet the one stud recruit he brought in never really contributed and has since left the program. I haven't done a deep dive, but I would imagine that the current staff's aggregate experience pales in comparison to many of our ACC brethren. Not saying these guys aren't sharp and have upside, but do they have experience at major programs, working under and learning from experienced, successful coaches? If not, are any of them stud recruiters who can sell the program and go head to head with the competition to land top targets? I think so far, that answer is no.

the personnel. We have over recruited this position as of late. Given all the experience on this staff coaching LB's (Pry, Marve, Quinn), its concerning to me that guys are struggling so mightily. It's not a physical issue. We have some serious athletes with dynamic abilities. It seems like we continue to get worse at LB. Players seem lost and in the wrong spot more often than not.

clearly play at this level. They will have options to upgrade to teams with better coaching and more complimentary weapons to better showcase their abilities. If you put Tuten behind even an average O-line, I think he can be something special. I love the way he runs the ball; he runs angry.

While he showed some improvement last year, he still seems like he may be a few years away (unfortunately eligibility will run out sooner than later) from being a consistent, solid contributor. I would think its going to be very difficult to replace GB's point production and if the expectation is for Kidd to be the main one to pick up the slack in terms of scoring, its may be a very long season. This loss really hurts three point production as well. Unless Coach Young has a stud from the portal capable of putting up 16 and 8, and ready to sign the dotted line, I'm not sure how this could be considered anything close to a blessing in disguise?

Power 5 program. He was a stud in H.S. and very well regarded, but it just feels different. I mean, do most major Power 5 programs bring in guys to be their team's high level # 2 from the H.S. ranks? This isn't meant to be sarcastic or snarky; maybe this does happen at major programs, but I was under the impression it was pretty rare.

allows us to get better, especially on the defensive end. The MJ hire seemed to be heavily based on recruiting, but the big recruiting bump never really materialized. Granted, RR's injury didnt help, but I really thought Coach Jones would have had a bigger impact with his prior connections and network. His guys never really played a major role. I'm sure its not an easy sell bringing in guys from the DMV region to Blacksburg, but I really anticipated greater success on the recruiting trail. With all that being said, I really hope Coach Young uses this opportunity to make a splash hire and bring in somebody from a major conference with some buzz as a recruiter and someone who specializes on the defensive side of the ball (like a Chester Frazier). Not only will that help with damage control on the current roster (transfer portal exodus), it will hopefully signal to current prospects and future recruits that VT is serious about its men's basketball program.

with only one season over 500 the last four years and only five conference wins this year. To my knowledge their program hasn't been a dominant force in the last decade. Don't see how MY loses this recruiting battle, especially after winning the ACC championship. Only thing I can think here is that he has someone more highly ranked ready to sign in place of Carter.
