Agree, You should run on first down in this
situation & burn some clock, let results of first down run dictate second & third down strategy.

From the guy who thinks you should choose the offense in OT
Dumbest idea ever and you're going to evaluate any OC? LOL

VT is 1-8 in one-score games in the Pry era.
Not all 1-score games are alike, and I'm not sure if this is even statistically significant. But it does make you wonder. Also, while losing close games does not look good on the staff or team, I think we have deeper talent and coaching problems. I just took a quick look at our last two years' results. Someone correct me if 1-8 is incorrect.

That totally ignores the reality of the rebuild Pry walked into
I would guess if anybody that if anyone went back and studied the predictions, in some of the 8 losses, the Pry teams were expected to lose by more than one score. So a bad team did a little better an expected and now people are saying that is a trend of under achieving.

I, for one, don't care about the closeness of the scores. I care about
wins and losses. And we didn't bring him here to lose to ODU and Marshall. And I'll throw Vandy and Rutgers in there too, honeymoon period or not.

How can Pry have such a huge rebuild when you defended everything Fu did?

The 1-8 record is really misleading though...
That indicates we are "really close to being good". I'm not sure that is true. All those 1 score losses were to teams outside the top 35 ESPN Power Index. Even worse, if you exclude the two NSCU games that were 1 point scores, the ranking of the teams which we lost by one score were: 105, 69, 80, 67, 91, plus wherever Vanderbilt ends up. The games against top 50, excluding NCSU, were not 1 score games as we got absolutely destroyed and lost them all by 2 to 4+ TDs. In fairness, it takes time to rebuild a program and including stats from the first year a coach takes over can be tough. There certainly was progress from 2022 to 2023, which is what makes the start to 2024 so tough to digest. ** Edited by jesuisvtguy at 9/3/2024, 7:24:44 AM

And even with that caveat, being 1-8 is not THAT much underperformance
Teams only win about 50% of 1-possession games in the long run (think 10+ seasons at least). If VT were 4-5 instead of 1-8 they would be basically exactly where you expect, and 3 games in the course of 2.1 seasons can't be easily differentiated from statistical noise. Now, if we were talking about Scott Frost and Nebraska, who went something like 1-20 in close games, OK that really is systemic, that's too far out of bounds to be just a statistical oddity.
