How many spots do we have open ?
Listened to the game and watched the interviews today. Its been a tough few weeks for everyone and dollars are tight and weather so it was apparent not as many folks as usual. Do get the sense that our defense will be always a learning groups and improving. I think the biggest think coach Pry said are two things. We are no where near where we need to be and mentioned new and a few players who have grown but I think the most telling thing was he said, we are doing things we have not done since he's been there. That was following a comment about 6 or 7 deep around the secondary. Any thoughts on how many spots we are going to attempt to fill in the portal.

They have x members on the team. They have internallly measured performance during spring practice hunger drills and last year. THey will 'score each player and position group and rank them 1-x. THey will also look at NIL they get based on what they are giving verus national databases for the position by performance.
From that they know who needs to be nudged on, and for some who think their worth is better than their performance and want more, maybe its not a good NIL investment at the rate and offer lower amount or suggest find other opportunities, for players who perform well and seen improvement who reward them for reetaining. Also for some of the stars who get offers from the portal 2nd round, you have to access what they are getting (is true?? or if they are asking for more, coaches need to assess is it worth it to enter new NIL arrangements.
Its pure player personnel management now.

...no one outside of the program knows how well we'll do as a team. I'm sure if they see a portal player who can help the team, they'll look to add them, but otherwise...

Can Drones and Watson run the offense effectively? Are the young guys able to step up? Could Tech recruit a QB from the portal who has run an offense similar to Montgomery's offense? I was mainly thinking of a G5 or D2 type QB that put up big numbers and wants a chance at a bigger stage.

Add in both the weather and having to pay to watch nothing more than a glorified scrimmage with your top two QBs out, the crowd was expectantly dismal. This is also coming off a season where we had returning starters in just about every position but couldn't even muster a .500 record and now we don't have that luxury coming into the 2025 campaign. Just not a lot of excitement around the program. If we were 8-5 or 9-4 in 2024, I suspect you would have seen a much larger crowd.

had fans at baseball, softball, and lacrosse. And the chill factor was 34 degrees at 2:00 pm in Blacksburg. I’m still thawing out.
