I don't disagree what you said about the P2 and I do think they will

eventually do their own thing. Once that happens, I am not sure there will be a gap between the other 2 groups. There may not really be a gap between some schools like Duke, Wake, BC, etc. within that group and the Gs because those schools made their "money" via basketball. They just happened to be at the "right place at the right time" when it came time to join a conference. It doesn't really matter what you or I think. If the schools don't buy into it, then it will never get off the ground. I'm not just talking about the G schools, but DII and DIII as well because they will likely have to sign off on the bylaw change. Then it will become a question of what are the P2 and/or ESPN willing to give up in order to get what they want. If the P2s do end up doing their own thing, then I do think the remaining FBS may decide to recombine with FCS. Schools may be forced to reduce their expenses because they see a reduction in revenue due to the networks decision to reallocate more money to the P2 League. You may even see conference networks go away or adopt the same model that is currently being used by the MWC, C-USA, and Sun Belt to free up additional resources that could be re-allocated to the P2 League.

For discussion, how would you feel about a separate playoff group?

Thanks everyone for the replies. It’s interesting to see the views

I'm only interested in the top tier of college football
VT_Skier 12/14/25 08:21 PM ET
I'm only willing to accept tiers if there is relegation and promotion
Maroon Baboon 12/14/25 08:34 PM ET
That sounds good but would likely end with the same group of
CMU Hokie 12/14/25 09:08 PM ET
Relegation and promotion by definition would change some of the teams
Maroon Baboon 12/14/25 11:05 PM ET
Tend to agree if I’m understanding

Nah, realign to 12 regional conferences, take the champs and 4 at large. **

Getting the Pac 10 back would be a nice start**

Bring Back Big TEN, Pac-10, SEC (10), SWC, Big 8, Smaller ACC-9, Big East
Maroon Baboon 12/15/25 01:38 AM ET
Split it up that way the first year, but then throw in promotion/relegation
North Main Hokie 12/14/25 04:44 PM ET
How about just conf champs and leave it at that **
CrystalCoveHokie 12/14/25 03:30 PM ET
So, a 2-10 team could make the playoffs in the ACC, B12,PAC group.

An easy adjustment could prevent any fringe cases
HokieAl 12/14/25 03:27 PM ET
At that point why would the P2 need to schedule any regular season games
VTHokie2000 12/14/25 12:43 PM ET
Because regular season allows for playing different confs for fans/tv
HokieAl 12/14/25 12:52 PM ET
How do you feel any time you see VT's regular season schedule include a

Two responses

WRT #1 you are creating a new "class" of "FCS" though.
VTHokie2000 12/14/25 04:28 PM ET
That almost already exists. The P2 have no care about anyone else
HokieAl 12/14/25 06:14 PM ET
I don't disagree what you said about the P2 and I do think they will
VTHokie2000 12/14/25 06:29 PM ET
And bowl games would become playoff games
HokieAl 12/14/25 12:25 PM ET
I much prefer playoff games be played at home field of higher seed.**
Atlee Hokie 12/14/25 03:11 PM ET
Curious about why. That has only been the case for one year in CFB. **
