Just an anecdote about Uva students in Arlington
My wife is a swim coach. Every year her team honors the graduating seniors. We also sit through the recognition for other teams. The majority of her swimmers are going to uva to the point that they exclusivity of that school has become a bit of a running joke. And let me tell you, some of them are not geniuses. They live in an area with pretty good schools and parents that will pay the big $$$$ for SAT prep. Have also seen a shift in more and more of her swimmers going to JMU. Also this year she has two going to VT, including one who will be swimming at VT (don't get me started on how Sergo either ignores one of the deepest talent pools in the nation or can't get his foot in the door).
Bottom line is that going to uva in my neck of the woods is very common and does not feel very elite.
