UNC is the best comparison to UVA in terms of public school with smaller

enrollment. Duke, UM, Northwestern, SMU, Stanford are all private (which you noted), so I would not lump them in with UVA at all. UVA is public. Totally different. As much as UVA would like to pretend to be considered as elite as Duke, Stanford, and Northwestern - it isn't.

Not really football related but 55k student applications for 2024. WOW. **

Actually, it's an apples and oranges stat these days. The use of the common
UEMcGill 07/22/24 04:59 PM ET
It took effort & cost money. The cost is what stopped me from applying to
Hoakie82 07/23/24 02:14 PM ET
Maybe a little but there are still some custom questions
Happy Dog 07/23/24 05:51 AM ET
Agreed, most 17-18 year olds don't want to write 4 extra essays.
hokieluver 07/23/24 04:21 PM ET
It's more than a little, it's a lot. And as more schools start waiving
UEMcGill 07/23/24 12:26 PM ET
Know quite a few kids who have used the shotgun approach
Happy Dog 07/23/24 12:57 PM ET
Wow...that's a lower % than our friends in C'Ville**
Tuckahokie 07/22/24 12:30 PM ET
How many will be accepted?**
Happy Dog 07/22/24 11:56 AM ET
The key is % offered, not enrolled. VT offer rate = 57%, UVA = 19%, **
True Hokie 07/22/24 01:24 PM ET
UVA way more exclusive..**
True Hokie 07/22/24 01:25 PM ET
UVa and VT are different

Scream_On_D 07/23/24 12:26 AM ET
Thank goodness!!!**
83Hokie 07/22/24 07:29 PM ET
But if you take the total number of students who enroll at UVA next year...
EDGEMAN 07/22/24 01:30 PM ET
Just an anecdote about Uva students in Arlington
Happy Dog 07/23/24 06:07 AM ET
Sounds relative -- compared to rest of Virginia/USA, I'm gonna guess....
HWA 07/23/24 05:50 PM ET
Exactly. And it's why UVa isn't so attractive to the B1G.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 02:01 PM ET
Maybe we should become more exclusive.
HokieDelNorte 07/22/24 04:39 PM ET
Why? Size and the $$ that brings will be VT's ticket to P2 (if it happens).**
marcbvtgm 07/25/24 12:14 PM ET
Football is exactly why UVa isn't so attractive to the B1G**
Pylons 07/22/24 04:13 PM ET
It’s all about $$ and UVa doesn’t bring $$. And it’s about 2045, not 2025.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 06:11 PM ET
Those things without football people care about wouldn't really matter.
Pylons 07/22/24 06:15 PM ET
Then explain UMd and Rutgers.
marcbvtgm 07/25/24 12:13 PM ET
UMd and Rutgers are maybe best explained as "mistakes"
Pylons 07/25/24 12:53 PM ET
I think their AAU status, along with being a state university puts them...
EDGEMAN 07/22/24 02:14 PM ET
Oh good grief, the AAU argument. That and being a state U gets them zip.
marcbvtgm 07/22/24 06:16 PM ET
How many non-AAU schools have the Big Ten added?
Hokie1992 07/23/24 07:35 AM ET
the Big Ten also hasn't taken any schools with tiny alumni/fanbases.
reestuart 07/23/24 08:01 AM ET
Good call on Stanford. Not only AAU, but Olympic sports.
HWA 07/23/24 05:59 PM ET
Yep. Exactly. **
reestuart 07/24/24 07:27 AM ET
For reference, Big Ten enrollments . . .
Hokie1992 07/23/24 10:18 AM ET
That's why I think VT would be a target well before UVa. Nebraska is
reestuart 07/23/24 12:14 PM ET
I would guess 6-7k **
uber hokie 07/22/24 12:16 PM ET
That's how many will enroll. Many more will be accepted.
Will StewartAdmin 07/22/24 01:23 PM ET
Of course you are correct I didn’t even consider that.
uber hokie 07/22/24 03:51 PM ET
S'all good.**

Likely financial aid.

In my tiny little bubble here in Radford...
Will StewartAdmin 07/22/24 11:01 PM ET
$25k is a bargain.
GreenvilleVT 07/26/24 05:21 PM ET
It's not like the "aggression" level is a choice
Pylons 07/22/24 05:02 PM ET

7,100 is target I’d heard; although I could see up to 7,500
hokiepro 07/22/24 12:23 PM ET
its great for Virginia's Flagship University **
