Wake coach Steve Forbes was hospitalized for six days earlier this summer
according to an article in today’s paper (Winston Salem). Coach MY got a mention in said article: “He drove down from Blacksburg on a Saturday, and I was not doing good,” Forbes said. “And he came and sat with me for two hours. And so, he's a really good friend.”

He's not the life of the party, but MY seems to be without pretense

It struck me that at halftime of one of the VT/Wake games, Steve and Mike..
were walking to the locker rooms together and chatting as they went. Clearly good friends. I think that is a very rare thing, even among coaches that are friendly.

Re CMY: I recently saw the replays from some VT games from last season, and
that reminded how highly I think of him as a coach and as a person and as a lover of his school. I'm not an insider, but it seems that he hasn't been handed the deepest pool of resources to work with, and he's had a bit of bad luck (including close losses last season), but I admire him and believe that he is a very worthy representative of the school.

Agree…and he’s seemingly on paper pieced together a roster with the correct
Balance of offense, defense shooting ability and length Amazing what he did in the portal for 2026-27 honestly ** Edited by hokiepro at 7/16/2026, 2:22:44 PM

Still think we end up about 0.500 on the year.
Even so, I will enjoy this team more than last year’s version.

I think we’re a bubble team again
Kinda where we live I HOPE we will be better because we’re not trying to massage a so called 5 star’s ego who was soft as tissue paper mentally

Me not having to be part of the ego massaging process is a huge improvement
I am secretly hoping that CMY can pull a rabbit out of this hat. But, if we are honest, those will be long odds.

CMY is absolutely the best coach we can have under
the current circumstances. Until VT is prepared to actually fund a competitive ACC team, we should be happy with someone who 1) isn’t going to do anything stupid, 2) represents the school positively, and 3) will likely put the best product possible on the floor. ** Edited by VT ChemE 1986 at 7/15/2026, 2:21:00 PM

It's a shame we will always have to wonder what he could have done
with a program that was adequately resourced on a consistent basis.
