GC-How far in advance does the basketball staff recruit players to VT?
I know in other sports, the VT staff will start targeting and talking with players several years out. Does this happen much in basketball? Do other colleges start recruiting players earlier in their development?

MY offered Gurdak the summer after his 8th grade year...
He offered a HS freshman Jaydon Young pretty much his first week on the job at VT. The formal offers cant come til Junior year, but theres nothing stopping you from telling a kid he has an offer Its much more common to keep tabs on players as Soph/Jr and offer as Jr/Sr but it does happen earlier.

That’s really interesting.
So MY spends half a decade building a relationship, gets the kid to Blacksburg. He preforms well when asked and then we don’t have the funds to retain him (what is sounds like at least, who know for sure). There has to be some sales analogy or lesson learned here. So much investment to let him walk after one year.

If he knew 6 years ago he would be lied to about how much $$ is available
He might have done things differently

Agreed, sad that VTAD does not provide. Such a waste.

Back in my day...we had scouts at my middle school games
I doubt much has changed. FWIW, the guy they were looking at played football at Oklahoma (not a big player, but still)
