Mike Young better be gone. Fire him and promote Frazier.
Frazier is one of the better assistants out there right now. He is an amazing recruiter and emphasizes defense. Defense is what wins games in college basketball. Mike Young is an average at best coach. Still has a losing record in the ACC in his 7th year here. If you can’t win your conference then you dont need to be coaching. Yes, he did win an ACC championship but how much of that was luck. Remind you if maddox doesn’t hit that game winning 3 vs Clemson in the first round. No championship. No tournament appearance. Then what would people think of Mike Young then? People overhype him way too much because he is a likable guy and seems to really love VT but even sometimes those guys aren’t the best fit for your program and culture. He wasn’t anything spectacular at wofford. He coached 17 years at a lower tier school for a reason. No one wanted him. We gambled for a cheap coach and get cheap results. Now that our emphasis is on getting the football program back, I’d say get rid of Young, promote Frazier, give him more NIL money and give it 2-3 seasons. If it doesn’t work out then fine, at least at that point football maybe should be built back up and we could then go after a bigger coach. People don’t want to accept the truth that Mike Young sucks.

Except Frazier is already on this staff. Are you saying Frazier has zero
responsibility or input on the coaching decisions that Mike Young chooses to employ? Is he not culpable as well?

I think Frazier would adapt to the new age of NIL better than Young will

Ridiculously stupid post
As are all the anti-CMY posts since last night. Sure, heartbreaking loss last night but we will win a lot more this year. CMY is a great coach and we are darn fortunate to have him.

CMY is a great man. how is he a great coach?

He got robbed of all of his NIL money for the last two years to fund
the Brent Pry experiment. He's finally getting funded again and fielding a competitive team. If we make one of our two one and ones, we win. If the player doesn't make the half court prayer, we win. Sometimes luck isn't on a coach's side. We have a history of poor basketball support(see NIL), what better coach are we going to attract without an alumus with a net worth of $200M+ saying they'll fund the whole program?

MY has talent this yr for more than a competitive team, should be winning
All the other shortcomings of the AD, and there are many, don’t apply to what MY has this year. Not to mention, he got his guy as the top assistant. The pieces are there for a special season (by VT standards) and MY is not getting it done. ** Edited by GoldCoast at 1/15/2026, 9:46:41 AM

CMY is a good coach, not great IMO
Great coaches don’t have only 1 at large worthy resume in 6 seasons. I don’t discount the ACC tourney championship but that team was not making the NCAA tourney as an at large had they not won. And sadly we are barreling toward yet another miss on March Madness. The committee isn’t going to give us credit for close losses. They are losses. ** Edited by HokieSA at 1/15/2026, 8:19:53 AM

The days of taking a bunch marginal players and making them more than...
...the sum of their parts (Hoosiers) is long gone. CMY was that kind of coach. Take less talented folks, marinate them in his system for 4 years and then have them perform (win above expectation) above their innate talent level every 3rd or 4th year. The changes in the game (speed, rules, tactics, recruiting, portal, NIL, etc) don't translate to his main skill set and never will.

I agree, but MY has good players this year, period. He should win this yr.
Especially if he is this great coach people think he is.

That is my underlying point - he isn't a good coach in this new reality
and he was only ever considered good because of his old Hoosiers peach basket system and the occasional overperformance by a scrappy bunch of underdogs at Wofford and one unbelievably fortunate ACC tourney run.

You’re right. Great coaches have a 55-63 conference record in 7 years
Smell the roses dude. If you cant win your dang conference then you dont make NCAA tournaments. Simple as that. Probably still living off the ACC championship high
